Statistics issued from the UK’s university applications body UCAS for 2015/16 admissions, show a record number of people have applied as at the January deadline.
Almost 10,000 more applications were received than the previous record in 2011 – the year which commentators had suggested was inflated as those applying were seeking to avoid tuition fee increases. The 2015 record numbers show that the fees increase has not stemmed the rise in young people wishing to enter higher education.
Of particular significance to Coral is that EU and non-EU foreign students have also risen – 7% and 3% respectively. It’s of note due to the preference for many foreign students to choose premium accommodation which is the speciality of providers such as Nido. Their accommodation units in London’s Kings Cross, Notting Hill and Spitalfields make up a substantial element in Coral’s existing portfolio.
