C$238billion pension fund, Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) has secured the Brandeaux portfolio alongside the Liberty Living management platform fighting off stiff competition from the UK and internationally. The £1.1billion price tag gives CPPIB immediate exposure to over 16,700 rooms across the country as they begin to build scale in the flourishing UK market.
The competitive nature of the tussle to secure this portfolio reflects the immense appeal of the UK student housing sector among investors from both the UK and abroad where already some £7billion has been invested institutionally in just the past three years.

Coral Portfolio Founder and CEO, John Kennedy is featured in a leader article in yesterday’s International Adviser penned by Daniel Flynn.
Discussing the UK market and the increasing international investment opportunities, John said Coral expects the sector to thrive in 2015.
John continued: ““The reasons student accommodation was embraced as an asset class by the investing public 15 years ago are as relevant now as they were then,” he said. “In fact they are even more compelling now the sector has matured and evolved in the UK and presents fresh opportunities globally.”
