We make five promises to our student customers about welfare and these are at the heart of everything we do. We would like to reassure all our customers about fire safety across our student accommodation brands. Your welfare and security has always been and will continue to be our number one priority. We will always work closely with our building contractors, consultants, local authorities, and local fire services to ensure that our residences are designed, constructed and operated to the very highest standards.
That’s why throughout the lifecycle of our buildings, from initial design through to occupation, we ensure that fire safety is rigorously considered and regularly reviewed. However, in light of the recent fire at a residential tower block London, it’s right that we reassess all our processes to take into account any new guidelines or information. We immediately conducted an initial review and we can confirm that all our buildings remain certified as compliant with current UK building and fire regulations.
Our regular fire risk assessments and strict process of monitoring, inspecting, servicing and testing the safety systems will continue as normal across all our properties. It is also important to note that our customer facing operations manage purpose-built student accommodation, therefore unlike some residential properties, our buildings are professionally managed by our own staff on-site. This combined with our type ‘L’ (life safety) fire alarm systems, which are remotely monitored on a 24/7 basis and installed throughout, gives additional assurance.
In line with our commitment to safety and security and ongoing public concerns, we have undertaken detailed investigations to make sure that if any further precautions should be taken to ensure the safety and welfare of our students and staff and to maintain our excellent fire safety record, they will be.
